Tablón de Trueque · El Fondeadero · the Nadir

Sable Vunn, the Tejedora

In a nutshell

Sable Vunn, known as the Tejedora (the Weaver), runs the Tablón de Trueque at El Fondeadero, the tax-free barter market of the Nadir station. She knows what anything is worth without looking at a screen. She charges a small commission, because what she really charges for is finding everything out.

Who is she?

She is the Tejedora, the Weaver, of El Fondeadero, the station of the Nadir. She runs the Tablón de Trueque, the station’s barter board: people trade there person to person, with no tax. She guarantees the deals for a small commission. She is 58.

The canon calls her charming and ruthlessly pragmatic. She knows the real value of everything and keeps it in her head, with no screens. She makes no secret that her commission is also her way of finding out everything that happens on the station.

How do you recognise her?

  • She calls everyone “darling”.
  • She puts a price on everything: “Everyone has a price, darling. The odd thing is knowing it.”
  • She starts the day on foot around the station, because walking you find out more than sitting down.
  • She reads the red ribbons as she passes, the way you read the weather. On the board, urgent cards have a red ribbon tied round them in a knot.
  • She eats breakfast at El Amarre, the station’s tavern, where the stew tastes of whoever made it.

Where can she be found?

At El Hogar, El Fondeadero’s covered square, beside her board. Now and then she runs blind auctions at Los Talares, the station’s open workshops. Trade between the two houses has another channel, a neutral one: the Mercado Global de Aurin.

Where does she appear in the Crónica?

Her voice comes over the radio in chapter 2, “We’re Not Your Friends”. Chapter 7, “What Nobody Wanted”, is told through her eyes. She is one of the seven main characters of Book I of the Crónica de Aurin.

This entry gives nothing away: it only tells what is known about her when she is introduced.
