Estación Nadir-1 · Trasvar, L5 point of Ithera’s orbit

El Fondeadero

In a nutshell

El Fondeadero is the space station of the Nadir, one of the two factions of the Aurin system. It is anchored at Trasvar, a rock that travels behind the planet Ithera along the same orbit. It is the Nadir’s first city: an assembly governs it by rotation, and here old things are valued because they are proven.

The Fondeo is not a celebration, it is a reminder.

What is it and where is it?

El Fondeadero, or Estación Nadir-1, is the space station of the Nadir, one of the system’s two factions, and their first city.

It is anchored at Trasvar, a rock that shares the orbit of Ithera, the neutral planet. Trasvar sits at the L5 point. L4 and L5 are two stable points on Ithera’s orbit. One lies sixty degrees ahead of the planet, the other sixty degrees behind.

The Cláusula de Equidistancia of the Armisticio de Ithera, the pact that stopped the war, set it there. The rival station, El Pináculo, holds the symmetrical point, L4.

El Fondeadero trails Ithera, on the side where the system leaves its path behind. The Nadir read that as we keep watch over what we have already crossed.

Who is in charge here?

The Círculo del Fondeadero, the Nadir assembly, governs. It sits in permanent session, and its presidency rotates every cycle.

  • Speaker Imelda Rook has held the post for two cycles, because no one relieves her. She believes in consensus, even as it wears her down to nothing.
  • Guardabosques Mayor Toben Ashline is gruff and protective to the point of paranoia. The Guardabosques are the Nadir watch corps on Ithera. Ashline respects the Guilds, the five neutral trade organisations, and never stops watching them.
  • Tejedora Sable Vunn runs the Tablón de Trueque, the station’s marketplace. She is charming and ruthlessly pragmatic. She knows the value of everything by heart, and her commission lets her hear about everything.
  • Guardaverso Bram is the Círculo’s lifelong ceremonial voice. At every rite he recites the Verses, the Círculo’s decrees. He presides over nothing.

How is it laid out?

There are no decks by rank here. Each zone is reached through trust:

Zone What is there
Las Amarras The docks, signposted by hand.
El Casco Viejo The Círculo, the community archives and the oldest housing, the most sought after: here “old” means “proven”.
El Hogar The covered square: cantina, boards and recruitment. Hanging hydroponic crops filter the light green.
Los Talares Open workshops. Anyone can use a bench if they leave it as they found it.
Mirador de los Guardabosques The best sensors on the station. It always faces Ithera.
Astilleros de Salvamento They break down ships and debris from the Cementerio de Aura, the band of wreckage the war left behind. Noisy, and the least homely place on board.

Wear is not hidden: it is labelled and shown as history, with patches from several eras. The light is amber and uneven. Some sources flicker, and nobody fixes them while they still work. There is talk, the noise of tools and music from several cultures. It smells of damp earth and oiled metal. Here silence unsettles people more than raised voices.

How does it welcome recruits?

A recruit’s first formality is a cup of tea. Mira Oestal pours it at the Enlace de Bienvenida. She is a former Guardabosques, retired after an injury. Instead of asking for an oath, she asks: “What can you really do?”

What services does it offer?

  • The mission board. A wall in El Hogar covered in cards, pinned up by whoever is asking for the work. Urgent jobs carry a red ribbon tied by hand.
  • The Tablón de Trueque. Goods change hands here tax-free: to the Círculo, taxing barter is charging people for helping a neighbour. Anyone who wants a guarantee runs the deal through the Tejedora on duty. She takes a small commission in kind.
  • Los Talares. They repair for less, and whoever helps with maintenance pays less.
  • The Cofre Común. Each zone has its own, backed by the neighbours’ reputation.
  • The Baliza Compartida. The travel service. It costs the same as at El Pináculo, but almost no one pays in full: there is always a package to carry for a discount.
  • “El Amarre”. The tavern, with tables made from ship parts. The food is properly cooked, by rota. People tell stories of the war of Year 1, which split the settlers into two sides. And they bet on whether the Armisticio will hold another year.

Can it be conquered?

No. Like El Pináculo, it keeps the Palio at its core, a field generator inherited from the Flota Aura, the settlers’ fleet. It absorbs structural damage and recalibrates the station every night.

No assault has ever taken anyone’s home from them.
