The Nadir
Em poucas palavras
The Nadir are one of the two factions contesting the Aurin system, rivals of the Zenith. They believe in putting down roots: adapting to the world, recycling and sacrificing no one to produce more. Their motto is ‘Lo que nadie quiso’ (what nobody wanted), and their home is the station El Fondeadero.

The void gave us a second chance, not to repeat the same mistakes, but to learn to put down roots.
Who are they?
The Nadir are one of the two factions of the Aurin system, where the settlers live. Their formal name is La Concesión, and their motto “Lo que nadie quiso”: what nobody wanted.
They came out of the Flota Aura, which brought the settlers from Solmera, their home galaxy. In the war of Year 1 the fleet split in two: the Nadir and their rivals, the Zenith. The Nadir were the fleet’s field engineers, biologists, cargo pilots, hydroponic farmers and working class.
Their home is El Fondeadero, a station near the planet Ithera. Every recruit chooses a house aboard the Arca Custodia, the neutral ship that registers settlers, after reading each house’s enlistment record. The Nadir one closes like this:
“Listening, salvage and sabotage. The Nadir believe no one should have their hand on everyone’s switch, and that what gets thrown away still has an owner.”

What do they believe?
They refused to repeat what, in their view, had already killed one home: growth without limit until collapse. They believe four things:
- Aurin is the final home: no next jump, no plan B.
- Adapt to the world. They build to suit the terrain and adapt diets and suits to each biome (type of landscape).
- Solmera is honoured by recycling.
- No one is expendable for a production quota.
Who is in charge?
The Círculo del Fondeadero governs them: a rotating assembly where nobody presides for more than one cycle. It decides by consensus and issues decrees called Verses. Beneath it are:
- The Guardabosques, who watch Ithera closely. That sets them against the Guilds, the neutral collectives that govern it.
- The Flotilla Libre, a militia with no single command. It turns out only when a settlement is threatened.
- The Descarnados, radicals who would sabotage the Zenith MMU (the shared manufacturing technology), even at the cost of Nadir lives. The Círculo tolerates them as sometimes useful, and publicly disowns them.
Where are they, and what do they hold?
El Fondeadero watches Ithera from the L5 point of its orbit, behind the planet. It is anchored on Trasvar, a rock that shares Ithera’s orbit. Their record credits them with the Casa de Piedra, the Baliza Compartida (the station’s jump service) and El Fondeadero. It also houses their Astilleros de Salvamento (salvage yards). Beyond the station:
- Cinera, a black, metal-less moon of Ormek, the first planet. It was the one thing in the inner system the Cátedra, the Zenith high command, did not want. The Nadir bought the concession for a laughable sum in Year 29. Out of its “passive instrumentation” clause came El Tizón, the best listening post in the system. It never loses sight of the Zenith’s Colector Solar Prima.
- Kaldrek, the cold planet and war front, where they have the Refugio de Ceniza, their forward base.
- Erran, a moon of Kharsis, the arid planet, with a listening post nobody knows how to approach.
- Melvara, Ithera’s large moon, with the Casa de Piedra.
- Kharun, another moon of Kharsis, on its far side, which Zenith reports write off as “of no operational interest”.
They mean to contain the Zenith at the strategic points, the contested sites. And to shield Ithera from plunder, slowly and without repeating Solmera’s mistake.
How do they live?
- Values. No one owns a resource; they hold it while they need it. “Optimal” is suspect; they prefer “enough” and “sustainable”.
- Holiday. The Fondeo, anniversary of the Armisticio de Ithera, the treaty that ended the war. Every non-essential light goes off for an hour, “to remember the darkness we crossed, and that we will not cross alone again”.
- Colours. Matte oxidised copper, industrial grey and olive green, lit in faint amber or radioactive green. Never saturated orange.
- Kit. Worn and patched, and proudly so.
How do the ranks work?
Both houses share five faction ranks, with titles of their own (see reputation).
| Rank | Title in the Círculo |
|---|---|
| Recluta | Forastero: the Círculo does not summon them |
| Operativo | Arraigado: may ask for a turn to speak |
| Veterano | Guardián del Fondeo: trusted with watch shifts and reserves |
| Comandante | Voz del Círculo: a real vote in the assembly |
| Leyenda | Ancla Viva: a lifelong title, invoked at every Fondeo |
At El Fondeadero, you tell a veteran by how they vote.
How do they see others?
To the Nadir, the Zenith mistake Solmera’s trauma for permission to repeat it, faster. Ithera proves people can live on a world without destroying it, and the Armisticio is sacred.
Where are the cracks?
Nor are they “the good guys”. They reject central command, and that makes them slow and prone to splitting. At El Vivero, the settlers’ guild headquarters, they complain with reason: “The Círculo votes while the patient gets worse.”
When a Descarnado proposes sabotaging a Zenith platform on Kaldrek, the Círculo neither authorises it nor stops it. Someone must choose: hand over the cargo or turn the saboteur in.
