Dossier
Two seats. One turret. No blind spots.
The crewed XASTER: two seats side by side, a remote S6 turret covering the whole upper hemisphere, four S4 weapons and a galley, bathroom and double cabin.
Dossier
The XL carries two people side by side under a wide canopy, and a remote turret with two S6 guns that covers the entire upper hemisphere.
The co-pilot/gunner runs the turret from their seat: continuous rotation through 360 degrees at 40°/s and elevation from −10 to +85 degrees. Under the wings, four staggered S4 weapons.
The bridge spans the full width of the hull: two rail-mounted command seats, a panoramic dashboard built into the fairing and an overhead console, behind an anteroom sealed by a two-leaf door.
Inside, there is everything: a dining area and lounge with a table for four; a galley with a flush hob, a sink and a column fridge; eight storage compartments; an armoury for four rifles and four pistols; a large bathroom with a shower; and a double cabin with two 2.05 × 0.90 m beds.
Aft, the hold spans the beam between the engines. Sixty tonnes in combat trim that still fly like an XASTER.
House and pattern
The XL closes the XASTER pattern. Like the rest of the family, it is built on a chassis of the MMU (Matriz de Manufactura Unificada) and homologated by William's; the turret, the second seat and the galley belong to the drawing, not to later additions.
Strengths
- No blind spots: a dorsal remote turret with two Martillo ballistic cannons (S6) covers the entire upper hemisphere; only the lowest angles are masked.
- Four S4 under the wings: two Horquilla railguns and two Lanza laser repeaters, for armour and shields alike.
- Missiles: four S4 missiles per salvo, sixteen in reserve.
- Built for two: galley, dining area, large bathroom, double cabin and an armoury for four rifles and four pistols.
- Command bridge: full-width, with rail-mounted seats and a sealed anteroom.
- Wide ramp: a 2.60 m ramp-door with a two-stage telescopic tongue.
Role in the fleet
With two crew and a turret, the XL is a colony's patrol ship and the last step before a capital ship. Until someone finishes rebuilding an Aura-class corvette, it is as close to one as a colony gets.
Within the family
The top of the ladder: 23.01 m overall against the L's 18.03 m, 60 t against 34 t, and the only XASTER with a second seat and a turret. Next to the X it is more than three times as long and twelve times as heavy — and it still wears exactly the same lines.
